About Indo-American Center: The Indo-American Center (IAC) was established as a community based, 501(c)(3) non-profit organization in 1990 by a group of Indian immigrants seeking to respond to the needs of their fellow growing South Asian immigrant population. Located near Devon Ave, at the heart of “Little India” in the West Ridge neighborhood of Chicago, IAC is deeply rooted in the community it serves. IAC connects clients to resources and opportunities that improve their individual community and quality of life through direct service, outreach, education, access, and advocacy. IAC operates six core programs: immigration legal services, citizenship, community engagement and organizing, adult education, health education and screenings, and a seniors’ program.

Reports To: Community Navigator Program Manager

Location: Chicago, IL, Des Plaines, IL (Hybrid/On-site, three (3) days per week in-office or at designated work locations; two (2) days remote.

Position Summary:
The Indo-American Center (IAC) seeks an organized and community-focused Community Navigator Coordinator to manage the day-to-day execution of the Community Navigator program. Reporting to the Community Navigator Program Manager, the Coordinator ensures smooth operations, coordinates schedules, and supports a team of Community Navigators who serve as trusted ambassadors connecting immigrant community members to essential resources and services.

This role focuses on operational excellence—managing schedules, coordinating outreach activities, tracking service delivery, and ensuring Community Navigators have the support they need to effectively serve their communities. The Coordinator works closely with the Program Manager to implement the program's strategic vision and works directly with Community Navigators to execute workshops, clinics, and community events.

Key ResponsibilitiesTeam Coordination & Operations – 30%

  • Manage daily operations and scheduling for the Community Navigator team
  • Coordinate Community Navigators' availability to ensure coverage during standard business hours and community events
  • Serve as the primary operational contact for Community Navigators, addressing day-to-day questions and logistical needs
  • Track and manage team capacity, workload distribution, and service delivery across different communities
  • Facilitate communication and coordination among Community Navigators to share best practices and resources
  • Schedule and organize community outreach activities, workshops, and resource events

Program Implementation & Support – 25%

  • Support the execution of the program's strategic vision and implementation plan under the guidance of the Program Manager
  • Assist with onboarding and training new Community Navigators
  • Ensure Community Navigators have necessary materials, resources, training and information to effectively serve community members
  • Ensure that Community Navigators are spending at least 20 percent of their time to provide interpretation or other needed support for community members, e.g. client appointments, immigration interviews, court appointments, etc.
  • Help troubleshoot operational challenges and escalate complex issues to the Program Manager
  • Coordinate logistics for Know Your Rights workshops, information sessions, and community events

Partnership & Outreach Coordination – 25%

  • Support the coordination of events and service delivery in collaboration with community partners and stakeholders.
  • Support relationship management with program partners and coalition members
  • Help identify and connect with new community organizations that can extend the program's reach
  • Assist in representing the program at community meetings and events as needed

Documentation & Reporting – 20%

  • Track and document services delivered, clients served, and outreach activities completed
  • Maintain accurate records of Community Navigator schedules, availability, and service delivery
  • Prepare operational reports and data for the Program Manager
  • Support program evaluation efforts by collecting and organizing relevant data
  • Conduct monthly check-ins with navigators

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in social work, community development, sociology or a related field; or equivalent lived and/or professional experience.
  • Two to three years of experience in direct services, case management, or community liaison work.
  • Knowledge of immigration processes and immigrant rights.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and Hindi and/or Urdu required.
  • Experience working with under-resourced communities, including immigrant and refugee populations.
  • Familiarity with Chicago-area and Chicagoland service providers, referral networks, and community resources.
  • Demonstrated cultural competence and ability to work respectfully and effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Comfortable facilitating presentations, Know Your Rights sessions, or workshops for community members, partners, and stakeholders.
  • Willingness and ability to attend and support in-person community events throughout the City of Chicago and Chicagoland suburbs.
  • Flexibility to work occasional evenings and weekends to meet community needs and support outreach activities.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Slides); comfort using tools such as Adobe Acrobat, Zoom, Google Meet, and Google Spaces.
  • Ability to create simple, accessible outreach and educational materials using Canva or similar design platforms.
