Materials Manager | Battle Creek, MI

Salary Range: $86,000 - $126,000 depending on experience

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and optimize inventory levels to meet production demands while minimizing carrying costs.
  • Develop and implement strategic materials planning and procurement processes.
  • Oversee the scheduling and coordination of material flow from suppliers to production and finished goods.
  • Lead supplier relationship management, including performance monitoring, contract negotiation, and dispute resolution.
  • Ensure accuracy of materials data within the ERP/MRP system and drive continuous improvement in data integrity.
  • Collaborate with production, sales, and engineering to align material availability with production schedules and new product introductions.
  • Identify and implement cost reduction strategies related to materials, logistics, and inventory management.

Recommended Qualifications

  • 5-7 years of progressive experience in materials management or supply chain leadership within a manufacturing environment.
  • Proven expertise in ERP/MRP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Dynamics 365) for planning, scheduling, and inventory control.
  • Strong background in inventory management, optimization strategies, and demand forecasting.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability to manage, mentor, and develop a materials team.
  • Excellent negotiation and communication skills for supplier relations and internal stakeholder collaboration.
  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field; APICS certification (CPIM, CSCP) highly preferred.

Bonus Qualifications

  • APICS CSCP or CPIM certification
  • Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification
  • Proficiency with advanced planning systems (APS) or specific ERP modules (e.g., SAP MM, Oracle SCM)
  • Experience managing international suppliers and global logistics
  • Demonstrated experience with data analytics and visualization tools for inventory optimization
