Job Summary:

The CNC Application Engineer at CQT Weapon Systems is responsible for optimizing the performance of CNC machines used in the manufacturing of firearms. This role involves working closely with engineering, production, and quality assurance teams to develop, implement, and refine CNC processes and programs. The goal is to ensure precision, efficiency, and adherence to safety and quality standards in the production of firearms components.

Key Responsibilities:

CNC Programming and Optimization:

  • Develop and optimize CNC programs for machining firearms components, ensuring they meet design specifications and quality standards.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve programming issues to minimize downtime and improve production efficiency.
  • Utilize CAM (Computer-Aided Manufacturing) software to create and modify machine toolpaths.
  • Process Improvement:
  • Analyze machining processes and performance data to identify areas for improvement.
  • Implement best practices for CNC operations to enhance productivity, reduce cycle times, and maintain high-quality output.
  • Conduct root cause analysis of production issues and develop corrective actions.
  • Machine Setup and Maintenance:
  • Oversee the setup and calibration of CNC machines for new and existing production runs.
  • Collaborate with maintenance teams to ensure machines are properly maintained and serviced.
  • Develop and maintain detailed machine setup documentation and operating procedures.
  • Collaboration and Support:
  • Work closely with design engineers to understand part specifications and translate them into effective CNC programs.
  • Provide technical support to production staff, including training on machine operation and programming.
  • Support new product introductions and assist in the transition from prototype to full-scale production.
  • Quality Assurance:
  • Ensure that all CNC machined components meet stringent quality and safety standards.
  • Collaborate with quality control teams to implement inspection protocols and address any quality issues.
  • Maintain accurate records of machining processes, inspections, and quality checks.
  • Documentation and Reporting:
  • Prepare and maintain comprehensive documentation for CNC programs, setup procedures, and process changes.
  • Generate reports on machine performance, production efficiency, and process improvements for management review.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field. Technical certifications or coursework in CNC machining are a plus. Application engineer experience counts as a substitution.
  • Experience: 3-5 years minimum of experience in CNC programming and applications, preferably in the firearms or precision manufacturing industry.
  • Technical Skills:
  • Proficiency in CNC programming languages (e.g., G-code, M-code) and CAM software. Fusion 360, Esprit or SolidCam Software a plus
  • Strong understanding of CNC machine operations, tooling, and workholding techniques.
  • Knowledge of firearms manufacturing processes and standards is highly desirable.
  • Soft Skills:
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively work with cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
